It offers better compatibility though, if you want to add more than three or maybe four cards, then you have to set it to gen1 or it won't work. So are you running at Gen1? If not can you let me know if that allows you to add a 5th, and use the iGPU? And this is another guy who managed to get 5 GPUs working on this mobo. Still running now, 7 hours uptime. Hopefully it's been fixed for mine. I reset windows windows Run it first with one GPU. Download the latest Nvidia drivers and install.
Install second GPU. Go to device manager and select "other devices", the second GPU which will be unrecognised should be there, update the driver for that select display adapters and install the Nvidia driver. Repeat for the steps for each consecutive GPU. Been mining on one for 4 months. It's been solid. Running 6x s. Both on-board molex sockets populated. No issues at all. My Celeron CPU does so the desktop is served by that and the s are reserved solely for mining.
Can I ask, how come you set the x1 slots to Gen1? That is half the speed of Gen2, and a quarter of Gen3. Depends what you mean by a rack. Okay thanks for the heads up, thats really useful to know. I am coming from a Folding home background, where if you run anything under x8 Gen3 you take a massive hit in performance. I wanted to run Linux because I'm a Linux guy, but the drivers are poor.
I couldn't find any documented way of changing the voltages of the cards, and the utility that does it in Windows, doesn't have that functionality in Linux. So I just went with windows in the end. I love the fact you have it in the loft, that is clever.
People that do not run these have no comprehension on how much heat they give of. The key thing is you have 6 GPU running from it; others are getting stuck on 4 or less. I am also going be running in Windows not into Linux and I only need to run 5 for now so hopefully everything will go to plan. I don't know if it matters but I'm running Win 10 build , which is the creators update released in March or as they call it.
I think version removed the max limit of 8GPUs. Even with how much heat it kicks off it's been unnoticeable in the attic this winter. I'm not looking forward to summer when it gets hot up there though. I've got a couple of mm fans and some ducting which I'm going to rig up as exhaust fans to try and get cooler air moving through the attic.
Probably connect them to the mobo as chassis fans and just have them on a low spin speed. In our case the heat got so bad in the summer, even with all the windows open that we moved everything into a server racks, and then moved the server racks those into a unity cupboard. We then installed input fans on the utility room door, and output fans on the roof attic hatch which happened to be in the same room. It worked pretty well.
Now it's winter we have moved everything back out so we don't have to use any kind of heating apart from hot water although even with these outside low temps we still have to leave 3 windows open due to the heat. Sometimes all it takes is a reboot, or taking the riser out and putting it back in. Or doing a 'full uninstall' and reinstall of the driver. Everytime you take out a riser, add a riser, or move a GPU - reboot, and then reinstall the Nvida driver - especially if you check for GPUs on below and some are not listed or not correctly.
The key apps we check to make sure everything is okay, or to track down what fk is happening are:. Also try installing each Riser, and then GPU, one at a time, step by step. Use the cable that came with riser else you may use a too long a cable. Just Google for more info. Sometimes you can add everything and reboot and it all works perfect! Other times you have to install one by one, step by step. When I found you could use the internal graphics, I removed all my s, deleted the drivers and installed them one by one until all 6 were working.
I did try installing 2 at a time but that just gave me yellow exclamation marks. I have all the nVidia audio devices disabled too. Not for any particular reason, just because I don't need them.
Cons: Board super warped. One bad ram slot. Ridiculous location for side 4 pin molex connectors that is needed to drive the PCIe 1x slots. Overall Review: Ordered knowing either it was going to work or not. After several hours and many reboots later, got it working and stable with this config; - Win10 x64 , 4gb of ram due to one bad memory slot, and w modular PSU - Both 4pin onboard molex connected - Reset cmos but kept factory firmware using only onboard video - Disabled the onboard sound and network since using usb wifi anyway.
It appears there is a PCI contention within device manager once the video cards are plugged in. Total of 2 and one More than happy to test with more video cards if someone wants to send me three more units. The most up to date bios is from , nothing newer available from ASRock. A huge pain to deal with this mobo, not worth the hassle. Overall Review: The guy who said this doesn't work with 's doesn't know what he is talking about, at all.
I have several of these running full banks of RX's. I have had a bit of trouble with the Biostar mining boards, but these work beautifully for their intended purpose. Pros: I've already known. Just press "N" when getting error message "Please install 4-pin power cables". Cons: After trying 6 GPUs and failing, it now will only run with two with any stability. When a third GPU is added, it becomes very unstable. Tried many things over weeks to isolate it down to this.
Pros: Works well with multiple cards. You can enable on board graphics with graphics cards plugged in. Good size. Cons: Must plug in additional board power to use more than 2 cards even if you are using powered headers.
